Runway Collection Analysis
One of my favorite collections this past Paris Fashion Week was Dior’s Haute Couture.
Under creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, female empowerment was heavily emphasized through set design, clothing, and models. A banner hung that said “What if Women Ruled the World?”

Dior’s Haute Couture collection was located in a massive tent in the shape of a reclining, nude woman, designed by Judy Chicago. Judy Chicago’s design was originally envisioned as a sculpture but lacked the funding. Chiuri enabled her creative vision to become a reality.
The designs gave off greek goddess vibes. The models themselves radiated a strong, powerful, and independent nature. However, some thought the models failed to come across as strong, but rather angry or moody, as some youtube criticism reflects.
The presentation itself was largely targeted at the press.

The nature of the show was a political statement. Dior knew the press could get their message out and used it’s platform to do so.
One of my favorite looks featured a cape made of small leaves, braided detail, gold jewelry and headband, and a veil. The dress is made of a thin olive green fabric that is beautifully pleated. The look is brought together by a powerful model, which emphasizes the collection’s political statement.

Dior made a statement this year, and I’m here for it. I am mesmerized by the entire collection and can’t wait to see what Maria Grazia Chiuri does next.
